Six Reasons To Have a Sydney Winter Wedding

GET HITCHED BETWEEN JUNE AND AUGUST AND GET READY FOR A COSY, BEAUTIFUL AND BUDGET-BUSTING WEDDING.

Not sold on the idea of a wedding during winter in Sydney? Well, we think that winter weddings have an undeserved bad rep! In fact, some of our most memorable weddings have been in the colder months. Here are six reasons why we think a winter wedding is worth seriously considering.

THE RAINFALL

Or should we say, the lack thereof! It might come as a surprise, but July is actually Sydney’s second driest month of the year. Whilst weather can be unpredictable (2019 was both the warmest and driest year on record in New South Wales), it’s helpful to know that history is on your side. Of course, we’d always advise having a solid wet weather plan whatever the forecast, (and we think a bit of drizzle in photographs can be pretty enchanting, too!)

THE HONEYMOON

So it might be winter in Sydney, but that means it’s the perfect time to escape on a honeymoon! If you’re wanting to head somewhere sunny to decompress as soon as the big day is over, there is no better time of year to get away. Whether it’s a summer jaunt across Europe or the USA, a low season value trip to The Maldives, or a staycation to the spectacular Uluru for balmy 19 degree days - in winter your options are almost endless.

THE LIGHT

Is there anything better than blue skies and a sunny day? Well, believe it or not, there is when it comes to photography! Contrary to popular belief, some of the best weather you can get for magical wedding photos is a grey or cloudy day. Not only does it mean the sun less is harsh, resulting in images that give incredible light, but winter is also renowned for its beautiful sunsets. The timing of the sunset is also a winner, meaning you won’t have to be pulled out of your reception to get the best light – thank you, Eastern Standard Time! When you have all your favourite people in one place for one night only, we think that’s a pretty great reason.

THE SWEAT

Ok, so we can’t promise you won’t be sweaty on your wedding day, but wedding jitters and hectic dancefloors aside, winter weddings mean you can relax when it comes to the thermostat. Want long sleeves? Waistcoats? Faux fur wraps for your bridesmaids? The choice is yours! And remember this sage advice we were once told – it’s often easier to warm people up, than cool them all down. Which leads us to…

THE COSY VIBES

It doesn’t have to be a full-on winter wonderland if you don’t want it to be, but whatever the theme of your big day, you can make it extra cosy and indulgent in winter. Think soft blankets for guests to wrap up in, boozy hot chocolates during your drinks reception, and deep colour palettes scattered with fairy lights. Flowers like the timeless poppy or the on-trend Blushing Bride are also in season to give your bouquets or flower crowns pops of ethereal, midwinter beauty. And when planning, don’t forget the all-important gas heaters!

BUDGET

We understand that weddings are expensive and any chance to save money can be very welcome. So, if you’re on a budget, generally winter weddings will cost you less. Why? With venues and suppliers typically less in demand, many offer amazing discounts during the quieter season. If you want to nab a great deal, and have the wedding you’ve always wanted and still make it under your budget, there is no better time to get that wedding booked than winter!
